Our story
We love getting out into nature, from bushwalking to kayaking, the beauty of nature is incredible. We enjoy growing our own food so a natural progression in 2019 was to get a beehive to help with pollination. We would observe the bees flying into the bushland called Rumbalara Reserve, hence our name Rumbalara Bees.
Heidi (beekeeper, soap maker and naturopath/herbalist) originally started making natural soaps and lip balm for her family as she was concerned about the ingredients of commercially available skincare products. Requests for her soaps and lip balm grew into a business in June 2020 launching a range of natural soaps, lip balm, beeswax candles and beeswax wraps.
Our fascination with bees is not just for the European honey bee but also for the many bee species native to Australia. We started making bee hotels and loved watching our local native bees using the drilled wood and bamboo cavities. Bee hotels were added to our product range in 2023 and we love that we are providing more homes for Australian native bees.
More recently, we have expanded into creating printable bee-themed educational games, crafts, and activities for children and adults. What started as a simple idea to share my love of bees with my own kids has grown into a collection of resources designed to make learning about bees fun, hands-on, and engaging. The range includes things like bee trivia, bingo, life cycle activities, and creative crafts that help children understand the important role bees play in our environment. It’s been really rewarding to combine beekeeping with education, and to know these resources are being used in homes and classrooms to spark curiosity and appreciation for bees.
